9 Reasons Why Google Keep Is My Go-To Note-Taking App

Note taking apps have changed the way people take notes in their daily lives. There are tons of note taking apps that come handy when you want to note down something. They are easily available on your finger tips. Despite experimenting with numerous note-taking applications, I constantly find myself returning to the original – Google Keep. Its unparalleled comfort and ease of use make it my go-to choice.

Here are some concrete reasons why I can’t seem to move beyond Google Keep:

01. Quick Note-Taking with Smooth Interface

Google Keep possesses a clean and smooth UI. It makes note taking experience extremely quick and easy. The card/block based view delivers superb feel while trying to locate the note. This gives a clear view even without opening the note. The app runs very smoothly, giving you a seamless note taking feel. It doesn’t hog up your device’s RAM much. You can easily access the app even when your device is heavily occupied in other tasks.

02. Voice Notes, Lists, Texts, Checkbox, and Much More

Notes are not only limited to the texts. Google Keep lets you take a note in multiple formats including texts, lists, checkboxes, voice notes, images, etc. This versatility significantly simplifies daily life. For instance, you can effortlessly record voice notes on the fly or even capture entire lectures directly within the app. It allows you to capture photos directly into the notes.

Personally, I find the checkbox feature invaluable. It has streamlined our travel planning immensely. Before a trip, I create a packing list using checkboxes, marking items off as they are packed. Similarly, I compile checklists of places to visit and cafes to try, allowing us to track our progress and ensure we don’t miss anything during our travels.

03. Search Functionality

Google Keep Search

As your collection of notes grows over time, locating specific information can become a challenge. With Google Keep, you don’t need to worry about the same. It has one of the best search functionality for note taking apps. You can seamlessly search for notes based on various factors like types, assigned labels, keywords, things, and people. You can specifically search for reminders, URLs, lists, etc. It also lets you find shared notes from different people. Conclusively, Google Keep’s robust search feature effectively prevents the time-consuming frustration of sifting through countless notes to find what you need.

04. Set Reminders

For someone like me who occasionally forgets to revisit notes, the reminder feature in Google Keep is a true lifesaver. You can effortlessly set reminders for notes. The reminder feature lets you set an alarm for a specific date and time. It even supports location specific reminders where you can select the place to receive reminders. You can set reminders with various options like daily, weekly, repetitive, non-repetitive, etc.

Google Keep Reminders

When planning a trip, you can set a time-specific reminder with your home as the location, ensuring you only receive the alert once you’re back. Similarly, you can configure reminders for work-related tasks to appear only when you are at the office. This intelligent reminder system significantly simplifies managing tasks and ensuring timely follow-up on important notes.

05. Image and Drawing

If you want to make your note taking a fun experience, Keep offers you image and drawing features. The app lets you offer pen and empty canvas to draw whatever you want and save as a note. Along with the drawings, you can capture anything you want directly in the note. That eliminates the need of uploading images to the notes.

06. Labeling and Color Coding

One of the best things about Google Keep is its categorization capabilities. For that, the platform offers unique labeling and color coding options. You can easily categorize your notes by assigning specific labels, such as grouping all travel-related notes under a “Travel” label and work-related notes under a “Work” label. This makes accessing relevant information incredibly efficient; when you need to find work documents, simply navigate to the “Work” label. You can even change the background colors and designs of the specific notes. This lets you help keep the important notes handy.

07. Smooth Collaboration

That’s the biggest advantage of having a note taking app from Google. Google has the highest number of email users, and with the Gmail account everyone automatically comes under Google ecosystem. This enables real-time collaboration of your Keep notes with everyone. You can choose to give editing permission while collaborating with others. This comes handy when you want to plan something in a group, such as trip planning or project planning.

08. Cross-Platform Sync

Having been an Android user for over a decade, my recent switch to iPhone presented a learning curve with many familiar apps. However, Google Keep stood out as a seamless transition. It offers a very good cross-platform sync.

Regardless of the device – be it Android, iOS, a web browser via its Progressive Web App, or even through its convenient Chrome Extension – your notes are always readily accessible and perfectly in sync.

09. Integration with Google Ecosystem

Google Keep is a part of Google Workspace, hence you can integrate it with various Google applications like Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc. The notes are easily available in the sidebar with a single click. This helps you during brainstorming sessions and outlining ideas in Keep, knowing that these notes can be effortlessly referenced later within your Google Workspace applications. Considering its seamless integration and the benefits outlined, anyone actively utilizing Google Workspace who isn’t yet leveraging Google Keep should strongly consider incorporating it into their workflow immediately.

Google Keep may not have fancy and catchy features, but simplicity is the backbone of the platform. The ease of collaboration within the familiar Google ecosystem makes it an even more considerable option. While a multitude of other note-taking applications exist across various platforms, it’s Google Keep that has consistently earned my loyalty and remains my preferred choice.
