Amazon Alexa plans for a feature that mimics the voices of your dead relatives

Amazon has showed off an experimental Alexa feature which enables the AI assistant to mimic the users’ dead relatives' voice.

Amazon demonstrated this feature at its annual MARS conference.

The company showed a video in which a child asked Alexa to play the bedtime story in her grand mom's voice.

In that video Alexa answered into the child's grand mother's voice.

“While AI can’t eliminate that pain of loss, it can definitely make their memories last,” said the Amazon Head Scientist for Alexa AI

There's no indication from the Amazon about the feature being available for public in the near future.

The feature could enable customers to have “lasting personal relationships” with the deceased, and it’s certainly true that many people around the world are already using AI for this purpose.
